Donella Vasta: You're making a civil war board game, but making it like Candyland??I'd scrap that idea, unless you have the Union and the Confederacy start on opposite sides of the board, going to a central point, which would be a Victory square. Whoever reaches it first wins the game. Have different card decks for each side. You can use a business card printing program to make them on the computer, and use thicker quality paper for them. For the Union side, have cards that say things like :Poor General performance - lose a turn (the Union had bad generals at the beginning of the war)Successful blockade - move Confederate back two spaces (the Union Navy was superior in numbers and quality)Increased Industrial output - roll againLincoln loses reelection - lose two turns (Lincoln only won re-election because of Union victories)Draft riot - lose a turn (there were numerous riots in the North against the draft)For the Confederacy, have cards like this:Support from Britain - r! oll again (the South was actively courting support from England)Poor harvest - go back two spacesBlockade runner sucessful - advance one space (the bulk of the South's ocean going navy was used to run the Union blockade)Andersonville prison - Union rolls again (the Confederate prison at Andersonville, Georgia was known to be a deathtrap. The thought of going there if captured would motivate Union troops to fight)For both players:General killed - go back one space (both sides lost brilliant generals during the course of the war. For example the South lost Stonewall Jackson, the North lost Nathaniel Lyons)Demoralized army - lose a turn (often an army would be demoralized due to a loss in battle, or too many casualties, to want to fight again)Successful cavalry raid - move opponent back two spaces (both sides would use cavalry to destroy the enemy's supplies. The South was better at it in the beginning, so have more of those cards in the Confederate deck until you draw a Gener! al Killed card, since before J.E.B. Stuart was killed at Yello! w Tavern, the South's cavalry was better than the Unions)If you want more help, search for me under my screen name here on Yahoo Im and I would be happy to help....Show more
Lillie Yarde: To be brutally honest with you, the major board game companies do not actively look for any new board games. There are too many people making board games, and almost none of them get published. The major companies also actively discourage people from making new games through lawsuits against new games that use game mechanics similar to existing games. They usually win.
Janeen Perona: How about you spice up those cards a bit like this...Musket Breaks! Lose next turn.No enemies ahead, roll again.Ally soldiers helps you go forward 3 spacesYou spot the enemy, Draw A cardCaptured! Go back to start! And I'd scrap the gain a turn, since you've already got a roll again card....Show more
