Star Gollnick: Martial arts is part of your life as well as an art. It is also a lifelong commitment.
Renay Billiar: It's a way of lifeWhich basicly covers every thing on your short list and a lot more
Carlee Tangaro: For me it is the way of life. It covers all areas(fighting, art, spiritual aspect...) It teaches me how to be better in all areas of life...
Derrick Smsith: I think all traditional martial arts are all of the above. For me, martial arts are more than fighting, self defense,or any of that, it truly is an art form, you have to ponder it and the more you delve into your art, the more it amazes you. I think anyone who starts off in martial arts wants a particular merit from it, but when you keep with it, it becomes much more than that, and you start to see the art in martial arts.
Ervin Laeger: To me-martial arts is an act of worship to God (Jesus) , first and for most. I practice internal art forms and some kung-fu hard styles. It reminds ! me that we are embroiled in a spiritual warfare daily. Second, it combines mind and body which, for one who struggles with ADHD/anxiety is like medication. The self defense aspect actually provides a sense of peace and I become more gentle with those around me.It is a form of art and self expression and helps me to develop identity in relation to self-expression....Show more
Ardelia Liptow: It is literally a part of me. It has shaped me as a person through character building. It is how I think and do things and how I perceive things.
Curtis Josef: There is no simple explanation. Yes, martial arts are often said to be a way of life. However, it would b e hard for someone outside of the art to understand what that means. Personally I do not look to my art for my spiritual needs. I look to Christ to satisfy those needs. If I were to give a simple response it would be that it is a life protection art. I once saw Master Pugspaw define our arts in this manner. i happen! to agree. It was developed to allow people to have the ability! to defend themselves or others and to preserve their lives. It has served me and many others well. It is not about fighting but more about survival. Because of the arts I have survived several different things. I have had a gun placed at my head, I knife incident that was meant for someone else but I was able to disarm the attacker, and I don't know how many other times my training has come into play. The greatest thing about it I'm still here to tell those stories instead of becoming a victim. I've had teenaged students that were able to use what they were taught to keep from being raped by adults. I had multiple attackers that I was ale to defend myself and others against. It has even taught me to be more aware of my surrounding. That allowed me to see on several occasion where a guy had a gun ans meant me or my loved ones harm and was able to get everyone away safely. Before I began training I would fight like a boxer and trade punches. But since then I haven't traded a! ny punches. I'm a lot wiser now about keeping myself out or harms way....Show more
