Barrett Alosa: keep it affordable simple and practical. first car doesn't need to be anything fancy. things to be on top of your list when buying the first car:* practicality- expenses when your commuting vs gas+engine maintenance.* have a trusted mechanic check the car engine specially if your buying second hand.* brand and model - choose common brands and models in your area so that materials and spare parts are easily available and will tend to be cheaper.I am a utilitarian so for my first was a 2 door SUV 4 wheel drive as I also like making out of town trips.you budget will follow after you've gone through this checklists....Show more
Mauro Cowee: The least I would spend is $3500 if I'm looking for a decent running, still looking good, reliable car. You can spend a lot more but I don't think I would consider spending less unless a real deal fell in my lap.
Sherita Gallati: However much your first car costs. Its up to you to decide what kinda vehicle you wa! nt for your first. once you do then however much such a vehicle costs you should save. Common sense.
Hilma Pestano: 2 to 3k
Merna Fauset: $5K is a nice figure. $3K to buy it, another grand to insure it, and a grand in case it has mechanical issues. That's not to say you really need to, but given that a decent car will cost you more than a few hundred bucks. It all depends on what you find and it's over all condition. G'luck!
