What do kids do/learn in preschool?

Irving Jordahl: You submitted an application without getting any details? Have you visited the school to see if it's going to be a good fit for your child and your family?I personally don't believe that preschool is a necessity as long as the parents (or other regular caregivers) are working with the child at home. The most important thing you can do from an educational standpoint is to read, read, read. Also, talk about letters and numbers/counting, and make sure the child can read (and hopefully write) her own name. As for socialization, children can get them from library story hours, classes at the Y, or other programs. Those types of programs will also teach the classroom skills that children need to be ready for kindergarten -- following directions, sitting quietly, standing in line, waiting their turn, etc.In preschool, my children have talked about letters/numbers, read stories, done crafts, had free playtime with the other kids, sang songs, learned about the ! calendar, talked about the weather, celebrated a range of holidays, etc. And they've had a great time doing it!So go check out this preschool along with others, and see if you think your daughter will enjoy it and if it meets your family's needs/wants. All my kids started in preschool just 2 mornings a week at age 3, and their teacher was phenomenal, so that worked well for us. At 4, they go for 3 mornings a week, which gets them ready to go 5 mornings a week for kindergarten. (Kindergarten is still half-day in my area.)Good luck with your decision!...Show more

Giovanna Cramblit: My daughter learned the alphabet, numbers, and how to write her name.

Enriqueta Steffen: Technically we filled out the application. Will hand it in tomorrow. We have a tour set up for tomorrow also, but I was just curious as to the basics.

Iris Shawcroft: Usually they learn letters, numbers, how to write their name and being part of a group. The playschool teacher should have! explained their curriculum. If not go ask.

Ginny Tricke! tt: We haven't been given any details yet, because we just submitted the application. Curiosity is just getting the best of me. :)

Horace Escue: letters, numbers, colors, drawings, socializing, games, team work like sharing, basically help them to get ready for Kindergarten..
