clever way to say gambling?

Edmund Rappley: You can refer to gambling as "gaming". That's how the casinos formally refer to it, and there's also the Nevada Gaming Commission. I would take the angle that it is habit forming and look for Gambler's Anonymous information online. You could also discuss how gambling often goes hand in hand with alcohol use, and perhaps there are statistics linking high crime rates with locations where gambling is legalized.

Newton Fedorko: the clever and more literate way is to say:only jackasss freaks, lose money in Vegas casinos;

Elmo Tervo: You mean "wager" or "bet"? Playing lottery, pull tabs, horse or dog racing? Poker, slot machines, keno, sports betting... If you're doing a report you might want to make some specific statements. I'd say that a broad statement like "gambling is negative" is not the right approach. Look at how much lottery money generates for education. Compare states with lottery funding for education to those that do not have lo! tteries and struggle to find money for teachers and programs. Use props for your report. Hand out cards to the audience and have them compete against each other for fun. Maybe give everyone a scratch off ticket. Then you can show that a $30 investment doen't pay off if you only make $5 from it....Show more

Lon Pennington: I've heard places (especially those who sponsor gambling, and are looking for a more PC way of saying it) to use the term "games of chance" instead of "gambling". I don't know exactly the conjecture of your report, but the term can apply to lottery and bingo as well as the more common forms of gambling, such as poker and roulette.
