Car Maintenance Repairs: Does where I purchased the car make a difference? Local vs. non-local?

Patricia Dornbos: Yes, you can tell by the number plates (UK). The first two letters of the number plate tell you where it comes from. And if you didn't purchase it at the local dealer, but you need to take it there, they will let you as long as the car brand is accepted at that dealer.

Jodie Capella: You can take it to any dealer for maintainance, recalls, or warranty work. You can even take a Chevy to a Buick dealer and have it done. As long as it gets entered in the manufacturer's computer records, your good to go. They would like you to come back to them so they make the money for working on it.

Abraham Ladick: There are a few patch/plug fix kits in the market. It has a patch and plug all developed into one. So the tire comes off and also you push the plug by way of the tire and that seals to the tire and the patch bottoms out at the within of the tire so as to add a few extra sealing energy. It was once a well fix I am definite.

Hope Lundmark: Not only can you take it to a local dealer but you can also have your choice of independent garages authorized to perform warranty repairs. ! I prefer the independents as in a small shop every mechanic th! ere is a certified mechanic as opposed to a dealership where you have one master mechanic keeping an eye on a bunch of kids with tool boxes. Dealerships have to keep costs down and thats how they do it. In a small shop everyone has to be an earner, no time for babysitting an apprentice....Show more

Nadia Crauswell: If you purchase a new car, the warranty will be honored at any of that brand's dealerships. If you purchased the car from another dealer, the local dealer is required to do the warranty work, but they can put customers that purchased from them in front of you in line. This means that your car would be worked on last, and may be there for a day or more longer for the same repair. With a used car, it will depend on the warranty that comes with the car. If you have the balance of the factory warranty, then it is the same as a new car purchase, the local dealer is required to do the warranty work. If it is a warranty offered by the selling dealer, you would have! to return to the selling dealer for warranty repairs. If there is a third party (aftermarket) extended warranty on the car, you can go to any shop that will accept that warranty. The local dealer may choose not to do so, so check before you buy...Show more

Antonette Shappy: Where you buy makes no difference. For warranty repairs, ANY dealer authorized by the manufacturer is required to honor the warranty. They are not allowed to CARE where the car was purchased. You do NOT have to have routine maintenance done by a dealer to maintain the warranty. It is ILLEGAL to require the maintenance to be done by a dealer. As long as you can show that maintenance was done, you can do it yourself. ANY local shop, including the dealer, will do routine maintenance on any vehicle your bring in, even if it is a different make than what they sell....Show more
