Somer Distilo: Hate to say it, computers are awesome, but a lot of computer/IT jobs are being outsourced to India, which means computers might not be a stable field if you live in the USA. If you're going into computers, get into a field where you can't be outsourced, where it requires you to be on-site. Avoid anything that can be done remotely, because a lot of those are the top jobs that get outsourced.
Miguel Koczela: Hi, There are many computer operator jobs available at the moment.but what do computer operators d! o? we wanted to take a minute and explain the differences between this type of job and other computer jobs. Now being a computer operator does not just mean you sit in front of a computer and operate it. It is much more than that and to let you know, this type of job is mainly found in the medical world. If you get hired on as an operator your responsibilities will include; oversee large company networks, this means that you monitor data packets and unclog problems with data transfer throughout the networks. you are also in charge of database maintenance, making sure patient databases are backed up and working properly. If there is ever a problem with the network or databases, it is your job to fix it. This requires having knowledge of SQL, FTP, SMTP, and VPN networks. you will be on call which means that if a server goes down in the middle of the night, it is your job to fix it. This job does not require a college degree, but you can bet that having a bachelors degr! ee in computer science or communications would be a huge plus ! to an employer. you must also have some troubleshooting knowledge as it will be your job to find, fix, and prevent the problem from happening again in an extremely quick manner. Remember that one computer going down can sometimes bring a whole company network down, so your ability to quick get things back on their feet is very important.- Jay...Show more
