"social security #'?

Valentine Michaud: NOPE!!!!!!!! i DON'T NO!!!!!!!!!!

Connie Dickirson: I have a check for 70$ and really don't care if I cash it or notThanks for your help!

Branden Roddick: very confusing issue. look into onto search engines like google. this could help!

Jayson Brod: Cash the check. If this was your only income, you don't have to file. If you had any taxes withheld then you may want to file to get a refund.

Bryant Pillitteri: Social Security number is necessary to open a bank account.

Erica Bottaro: If this is your only income for the year, you will not have to file a tax return. Go ahead and cash your check, you earned it.

Gaylord Barragan: Federal law now requires it.

Justin Casten: Thanks for your help sumbumblebee, that was very informative. I'm wondering if I can also use a portion of the square footage of the common areas like the kitchen, living room etc? If the two of them lived here with me, my wife and child, then t! hey were basically using 40% of the common areas. Can I add in that percentage too?

Len Dalba: A tax ID number can be used instead of a SSN to open a banking account; how else do you think foreign nationals manage their finances when they come to the US to work? You should be able to use a current passport, valid driver's license or state ID, or other "Federal" documentation to open an account. You can get an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the IRS. ITIN is a tax processing number that became available July 1, 1996, for certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouse and dependents. The ITIN is only available to individuals who cannot get a social security number (SSN)....Show more

Collin Pelfrey: NO!

Annabell Bevier: My wife's parents lived with us for 5 months in 2008. They rented one bedroom and bathroom in our primary residence, and used the common areas with us like the kitchen, living room and backyard. I know I have to clai! m the $2,000 per month ($10,000 total) that they paid us in re! nt as income on my tax return. But I don't know what, if any, deductions I can claim. Any suggestions?

Miguel Koczela: B of A will allow illegals to get bank accounts.

Blythe Noreiga: No.

Misty Vagle: Not any more, not since 9/11. Federal regulations require banks to ask for two forms of ID and proof of your social security number now when you open a bank account in order to ensure that you're not laundering money for a terrorist front.

Moira Woodrow: You can use a similar formula to that used for business use of the home. Take the square-footage of the rented room and bathroom and divide that by the total square-footage of your house to get the percent of the home used as a "rental". Now list out your mortgage interest, utilities, repairs, insurance, etc.- all of your indirect expenses- and multiply each by the percentage that is allocable to the rented portion. Now enter each of these expense amounts on your schedule E. If you're planning on pa! per-filing, I'd include the schedule of total expenses to the renter's share you just completed- attach it to your schedule E. If not, don't worry about it. Just make sure to describe the rental as a rented room in personal residence on your schedule E.Hope that helps. :0)

Irma Poiter: ITINs are not valid identification outside the tax system. Since ITINs are strictly for tax processing, IRS does not apply the same standards as agencies that provide genuine identity certification.ITIN applicants are not required to apply in person, and IRS does not further validate the authenticity of identity documents. ITINs do not prove identity outside the tax system, and should not be offered or accepted as identification for non-tax purposeshttp://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdfFrom the W& application instructions1. You are claiming the benefits of a U.S. income tax treaty with aforeign country and you receive any of the following:a. Wages, salary, compensation, and honoraria ! payments,Frequently, third parties (such as banks and other financialin! stitutions) which are subject to information reporting andwithholding requirements, will request an ITIN from you to enablethem to file information returns required by law. If you are requestingan ITIN for this reason, you may be able to claim one of theexceptions described below. Enter on the dotted line next to box hthe exception that applies to you. You will not need to attach a taxreturn to your Form W-7. For more detailed information regarding theexception(s) that may apply to you, see the Exceptions TablebeginningYou need to apply for the ITIN number if you are not eligible for a SS#, banks are required to have an identifying number in order to open an account...Show more

Charis Deguzman: If you don't make any other money this year, no. Single filers who make less than $8,450 do not have to file. That said, if anything was withheld for taxes you cannot get a refund unless you do file.

Providencia Serpe: I called H&R Block and they don't know what to tel! l me. I call HSBC Trust Company and I can't talk to anyone. (its all automated) I want to pay this debt so I can get my taxes back. What do I do??

Matt Tiry: Nope. It's for your protection as well as the gov't.

Gaynell Pizzaro: It says if I don't pay it within 30 days they will automatically withdraw the debt, and I will then receive my money. I don't want to wait that long though.

Darrel Stele: I would be mad. Because they have all these commercials that claim they stand behind you on stuff like that.

Christiane Cattano: No, you need a TIN of some sort to open an account. If you are a US citizen or legal resident, your SSN is mandatory.

Esteban Lyson: why would you even charge your parent-in-law's to live with you for 5 months?

Susan Rambo: sounds to me like you signed up for an "instant refund" .. which is actually a loan. Or that you couldn't pay the preparation fees and they're being borrowed from your refund.H+R Block arranges! the loans with HSBC, I believe.

Jasper Mangel: What does the let! ter say?

Nona Lentini: No. It is used as your "tax identification number."
